worship
"they devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers" (acts 2:42)
the smaller groups of apostles that meet at various times during the week for mission and community groups, prayer, scripture reflection and service, come together each week for a mass Gathering. the word 'mass' comes from the end of the ancient latin liturgy "eta missa est" (the gathering is ended, you are sent forth). so our accent is not on 'coming to church,' but on leaving, to be church in the world.
at eucharist we immerse ourselves in the ways of God, and discern what God is doing in us and in our world, as we attend to God's Word (Jesus Christ whose story is told in bible readings and a message), the world (prayer and offering) and share the bread and wine of communion at Table. all this, so we can go home (Sending forth to mission). as apostles, our home is not the church, but the world. we don't gather to become "churched," but to be fueled for being church 24/7 in the world.
the mass is "liturgy" (community work). we pool our gifts, talents and resources as a spiritual expression and thanksgiving to God. so, mass gathering needs musicians, vocalists, artists, servers, prayer leaders and crews of all sorts (hospitality, kid care, sound, geek/tech, roadies, set up, tear down). to offer your gifts and help with worship click here.
in approach, apostles' worship is neither "traditional" nor "contemporary" but ancient-future. ancient-future liturgy speaks across generations and draws equally upon ancient (hymns, chant, candles, communion) and techno-modern (alt. rock, art, ambient, projection, video) sources, so there is no need to 'check your culture at the door.' so, come as you are, wear your jeans, show your body art, tote your java, and be @ home spiritually, with God, and among friends.
