When the world isn't in the middle of a pandemic, COTA hosts a gathering for newcomers every three to four months, and an after service hang-out every second Sunday of the month. Hopefully we'll be able to resume that pattern soon enough! We are a community that places immense value on transparency, so we welcome any and all questions you might have. If you are new, please let us know. We'd love to chat! Contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
The Liturgy Guild envisions, plans, and curates our weekly worship services based on the liturgical day or season. We welcome and encourage all to partipate - no specific knowledge or experience is required. At our first gathering we look at the scripture texts and listen together for a theme. At our second gathering we build on that theme by crafting a unique liturgy for the community. We believe in all ideas having a welcome seat at the table. Liturgy Guild meetings typically occur on Wednesday evenings.
If you are interested in helping plan and shape community-building activities at COTA, this is a great place to get plugged in. Community Architects plan retreats, coordinate meals after worship, referee pie-baking contests, and provide other community-enhancing program offerings throughout the year.
Community Spaces are small groups of 5-10 COTAns who meet to draw the COTA community together in more intentional and intimate ways, typically gathering every week for 3-month periods. Groups are often formed around specific themes or books, and have rotating leadership and hosting. They are open to anyone who wants to commit for a season and are a great way to connect with others. If you’d like to participate in conversations with our building partner, the Fremont Abbey Arts Center, InCommon is a group that focuses on ways our two organizations can collaborate on mission, events, and building improvements. We meet about once every other month. The art center does wonderful work in the community!
Drinks, Community, and Discussion - Theology Pub talks about pretty much everything and anything you could possibly think of in regards to the church, and we always love to have more opinions. Theology Pub meets every first and third Tuesday at 7pm to discuss a new topic. We meet at Cafe Arta (www.cafearta.com) in Ravenna at 6504 20th Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98115. The restaurant is tied to Third Place Books and for now, we are meeting outside in the seating area adjacent to the parking lot. It's a lot of fun!
